What To Expect When Renting A Jet Ski

Jet Skiing is one of the most popular outdoor activities in Dubai and it is not hard to see why in a country with a hot desert climate. The thrills you’ll feel and the beauty you’ll experience while jet skiing is sure to get you addicted to this watersport after your first ride. However, if this is your first time, you may be a little nervous about what to know or expect when renting a jet ski. Here are some points that can help you get some ideas around this topic. 

License And Identification 

Firstly it’s important that you rent from a licensed jet ski rental company. You should be expecting to pay a fine of at least AED 500 if you rent an unregistered jet ski. On the other hand, the rental company if unregistered will land a fine of AED 1000. 

And for identification, renters are expected to present a valid means of documents. This can be an Emirates ID or an international passport. 

Age 

To rent a jet ski on your own you should be at least 18 years. Anyone below this age should be accompanied by an adult. Parents can take their children on a jet ski ride (on a sit-down model). Instructors will recommend kids to be seated between the two parents for the safest and most comfortable position. 

Deposit Requirements 

Sometimes you’ll be expected to make a deposit, also known as “a hold” which is required to cover or compensate in case of any damage during your ride. Make sure to ask questions from the rental company to clear these doubts from the outset. It will also help you figure out the exact budget you need to spend on your jet ski ride. 

Fuel Policy 

Some companies may expect you to pay for the gas cost separately. This means that the rental charge you pay will not include the cost to fill the gas tank. So before making a payment or even picking a rental company, make sure to ask about their gas or fuel policy. This will again help you understand the cost you can expect for the ride. 

Models 

Jet skis come in two different models; stand-up and sit-down models. If you’re a beginner or expecting to ride with another,  then the sit-down model will be recommended to you. It is beginner-friendly, accommodates two riders and is also much more comfortable than a stand-up model. You can expect to perform only simple stunts and tricks using a sit-down model. 

In contrast, the stand-up model is designed for a solo rider and is much more light-weight than a sit-down model. Its light-weight and related features allow you to perform complex stunts and tricks and is often recommended to experts. 

Guide And Safety Equipment 

Before you begin your ride expect the rental company to provide you with an essential set of safety gear and equipment which are mandated by law. This includes a life jacket, lanyard, sound signaling device, fire extinguisher, and flashlight. If you need something other than these for the comfort of your safety, then you’re free to carry them. 

Weather 

Although it is less frequent, you may have to expect a cancellation if the weather is deemed to be unsuitable for jet skiing. It’s part of the industry regulations to conduct weather cancellations when required, to protect the safety of riders. In Dubai, most jet ski rental companies offer a full refund or a rescheduled date as part of their weather cancellation policies. However, jet ski rental companies also have the right to request payment if it’s determined that the conditions are still safe to go out on the water.
