Even when doing fun stuff like jet-skiing, safety should be your primary concern. And while we’ve got a reliable team backing you up, it never hurts to be a little more informed and educated, which is why we think this list of jet-skiing tips for first-timers may come in handy.
STRAIGHTEN IT OUT
If you’ve ever watched jet-skier’s before, one of the things that may have crossed your mind could be how they manage to keep the jet-ski straight. As it turns out, this is a common query amongst beginners, and one that they tend to be quite worried about, especially when they see the speed of the jetski. The good news is that there actually isn’t anything to worry about, mainly because it can be easily corrected. Instead of looking directly at the handlebars or just in front of the ski, you should lift your head up and focus on the distance. This will help you gain a better grip and control over your posture so you can maneuver the jetski better.
FINGER ON THE THROTTLE
Aside from actually staying on the jetski, another big concern for first-time riders apart from reliable jetski is how they can avoid collisions with other riders on the water. This can be addressed in two ways; one, is that we don’t typically schedule several rides in the same vicinity so our clients can enjoy the open waters the way they’re meant to be. Secondly, it’s essential that you keep your finger on the throttle at all times. This is because the throttle is what gives the machine thrust, helping it move forward. This also affects steering. A jetski isn’t powered by a rudder, but by the throttle which is what helps shoot water out the back propelling it forward. So if you want to change course or steer, you need to keep pressing down on the throttle, else the jetski will come to a standstill.
RE-BOARD CORRECTLY
Another reason as to why people think twice about jet-skiing is because they’re not entirely sure they can handle getting back in the saddle once they fall off. And chances are, you will fall off, especially since you’re a beginner. Not to worry, seeing as how this is all a part of learning how to jetski. All you need to do is remember to climb back on from the back or the ‘stern’ as it’s known. There’s a handle fixed there, which you can easily reach and use to hoist yourself back up. Remember, never from the side.
